Ratings reflect the most typical sections of the route.

Category 1: Smooth, well-maintained dirt or gravel roads/trails.
Example: Barkerville Road, Klondyke-Bonita Road

Category 2: Dirt or gravel roads/trails with potholes, washboards and loose corners
Example: Orme Road, Chino Grinder course

Category 3: Poorly maintained roads/trails with bigger rocks, ruts and/or sand
Example: Drake Road, A-Cross Road

Category 4: Trail badly eroded; non-maintained with deep ruts, embeded or loose chunky rocks
Example: Senator Highway between Goodwin and Crown King, Maggie Mine Road

Category 5: Extremely rugged road/trail. Expect to encounter long stretches of hike-a-bike. Suspension would be wise.
Example: Rug Road, Round Mountain
